It’s not easy for a holiday accommodation business to get noticed in Victor Harbor with so many competitors vying for search engine prominence in one of South Australia’s major tourism destinations.
In addition to this, the first few results pages for the search term ‘accommodation victor harbor‘ are occupied by online travel aggregators like Booking.com, TripAdvisor Expedia and many others.
This is the approach that Ivolution Consulting took to get Apollon Motor Inn first page prominence and a share of the available business opportunities.
Setting up a Google My Business / Plus account correctly is the most important aspect of any ‘Local’ SEO work. It lets Google know where you are. The aim is to occupy one of the 3 Google Places spots below the map on the search results page – if you can attain the first position that’s even better.
EVERYTHING matters when you set up a Google My Business account; the business categories you choose, your trading area, how and what you name your photos, business description and most importantly, business name, address & phone number (NAP).
It’s not only essential for your SEO work, a Google My Business account also records a lots of important information. Every 7, 30 or 90 days it will tell you how many people clicked through to your website, used it for driving directions to your business and, best of all … how many people phoned your business.
Occupying one of the 3 Google Places listings also makes it easy for people to find you and call you on their mobile devices (see photo).
Other Google Services connected included Google Analytics & a Google Map (associated to the business – not just the street address).
A common issue that Ivolution Consulting encounters when setting up Google services correctly involves unravelling multiple Gmail accounts. We regularly have to remove multiple, duplicate Google My Business pages and YouTube Channels and disconnect YouTube accounts from Google Plus personal pages.
Ivolution Consulting audited Apollon Motor Inn’s online presence in October 2015 uncovering more than 80 citations, many with business name, address & phone number variations. Of these, we managed to update and correct the vast majority of them (a number of the old directories had neither a contact facility or edit / delete function).
Many of Apollon Motor Inn’s online business listings were associated with the name of its tourism group. In combination with the remaining listings’ address and phone number variations it was obvious why the company was unable to gain any prominence with Google.
Our work delivered immediate results, having 70 consistent citations working for the business instead of against it catapulted Apollon Motor Inn into the top 3 Google My Business places for its key search term ‘accommodation victor harbor‘.
Apollon Motor Inn’s website had recently been redeveloped prior to Ivolution Consulting’s involvement, therefore we had to optimise it as best we could. This was particularly challenging as several of the key SEO functions were unavailable.
Apollon Motor Inn now occupies one of the three Google My Business / Plus places, there’s an excellent chance it will continue to climb and attain the No. 1 spot in the coming months. The impact of the SEO work is already starting to deliver the benefits of first page prominence with Google. In the 30 days prior to 25 December 2015, it was viewed 23,718 times, delivering 182 visitors to the website, 16 people used it for driving directions and 32 people called the Motel directly.
Not 1c has been invested in ongoing SEO since the work was undertaken in October 2015.
